What is keratosis pilaris

What is keratosis pilaris

Ever wondered What is keratosis pilarisWhat is keratosis pilaris

Lets take a look at What is keratosis pilaris today

In today’s blog we are going to take a look at What is keratosis pilaris.  It is actually a very common skin condition that most people don’t really know a lot about.
Keratosis pilaris (KP) is also known as chicken skin as that’s what it looks like.  It is a common genetic follicular disorder.
As many as 50% of us are said to have KP, often without realising. It most commonly affects children and adolescents, who usually choose to use basic unctuous creams that feel slimy to wear and don’t work. The bumps on the skin are dry and rough and the affected skin feels like sandpaper, and no amount of exfoliation or body moisturiser will shift them.
KP runs in the family and often goes hand-in-hand with chronic dry skin. What happens is the body makes extra keratin, a skin protein, which surrounds and traps hair follicles in pores. That forms a hard plug, often containing an ingrown hair, which makes the skin bumpy and can make the surface appear inflamed or like a rash.
On the body, loofahing helps if the skin isn’t inflamed but the bumps can’t be completely buffed off. A lotion as been produced by a lady that has suffered with KP for years as she was fed up with there being nothing to treat it properly.  Ameliorate, the remedy she developed with a chemist, is a pH-balanced lotion based on lactic acid, the non-abrasive skin-smoothing ingredient, and apparently nothing touches KP like it does.  I personally will have to try this as I do suffer with KP and  I will certainly report back with the results.
So have we answered the question which was today What is keratosis pilaris.

Snail facials

Snail facials

Wow Snail facials

Could Snail facials be the next big thingSnail facials

Could Snail facials be the next big thing in skincare and beauty.  We have seen in the news this week that snail facials have come to the UK.  So we have decided to look into what they can do for your skin and if it would really be worth it.  Who knows we could be offering them at B Beautiful 4 U in the future.
There is currently only one salon that offers the snail facial, it originally comes from Tokyo.  It apparently works  by placing the snails on the face and the slime helps remove old skin cells and rejuvenate the skin underneath.
A salon in Tokyo that provide the snail facial say that it is also great at treating sunburn as it has healing and hydrating properties.  It will therefore also be great for people with dry skin.  The use of snails in skincare goes way back in history as the ancient greeks used them to treat skin inflammation amongst other things.
Its advised that you don’t try this at home with any old snails, you should as with many beauty treatments see a professional.    We’re not sure we would personally like to give this facial a go but you never know it could really take off.  It will really depend on the outcome of the treatment and if its effects are worth having snails slimming across your face.
If you know anyone that has given this a go or you yourself have experienced it then let us know what you thought of the Snail facials.

Lipstick facts!

Lipstick facts

Today we are looking at Lipstick facts

Lipstick facts that you may not knowLipstick facts

In today’s blog we a taking a look at some Lipstick facts that you may not know about.
So you may wear lipstick everyday or just on occasion but for most of us it has been or is a part of our lives.  We thought it would be fun to look at some lipstick facts today, as there is a long history behind it, you may even be shocked by some.
  • Lipstick was used way back in Ancient Egypt. It’s said that Cleopatra made her red lipsticks from crushed Carmine beetles and ants.  Although it wasn’t called lipstick until the 1880’s.
  •  At one point in time, it was acceptable to apply lipstick in public during lunch, but never at dinner time.
  • Ever watch a 1920s silent film and wonder why the actresses wore black lipstick. It was because film stock was sensitive to colour and red lipstick would register as black.
  • White, matte lipstick was a trend in the 1960s for a true modern look.
  • Some shimmery lipsticks contained fish scales (also known as “pearl essence”) these were used for shine.
  • It’s said that women who wear lipstick daily, unintentionally eat about 4 pounds of lipstick in their lifetime.  Yummy!!!
  • According to a study called the “Lipstick Effect” when facing an economic crisis consumers will be more willing to buy less costly luxury goods. Instead of buying expensive fur coats, for example, people will buy expensive lipstick.
  • Lipstick sales also tend to go up on gloomy or rainy days. We need something to make us feel better.
  • In the 1700s, a man could have his marriage annulled if his wife had used lip rouge during their courtship. Oh the shame!
  • Over 80 percent of American women wear lipstick, that’s more than the French.
  • Queen Elizabeth II commissioned her own lipstick shade to match her coronation robes at he 1952 ceremony. The soft red-blue was dubbed “The Balmoral Lipstick,” named after her Scottish country home.
There we are some Lipstick facts, some fun, some a bit shocking and maybe a bit unusual.

Preparing for Summer

Preparing for SummerPreparing for Summer

Its time you were Preparing for Summer

Preparing for Summer makeup

As it’s now Spring we can start to look at Preparing for Summer.  No we don’t want to wish our lives away but its nice to look forward to some warmer weather and you never know we may even get some warm sunshine during Spring.
So here are some helpful tips for the warmer weather that we hope to be getting soon.
A shiny face can be a problem in the heat so you may want to consider reducing it. Try replacing your rich cleanser and face cream with a foaming gel and an oil-free daily lotion that has a minimum SPF 15. Carry a compact for midday touch-ups but don’t cover your entire face with powder. Let your cheeks glow and just freshen the center of your face.
When it comes to your makeup, get rid of your thick foundation and cream lipsticks as its time to change over to makeup with a lighter texture. Tinted moisturiser, cheek stain, bronzing gel, and lip gloss will be much better in the heat and keep you looking fresh. Always remember to use primer as primer fills in fine lines, helps makeup go on more smoothly and keeps it in place. Apply a thin layer to your skin, eyelids and even your lips, so that your tinted moisturiser, eyeshadow, and lip colour don’t go anywhere.
Also to minimize the chance of smudging you should use waterproof makeup, waterproof mascara, eyeliner and under eye concealer should do the trick.
We hope you have found these Preparing for Summer makeup tips helpful.

We are just going to Recap as to why you should avoid nail bars

We are going to tell you  Recap as to why you should avoid nail bars

Before you consider going to a nail bar you should read the following Recap as to why you should avoid nail bars
We have decided to recap as to why you should avoid nail bars As nails bars do not have a good reputation and for good reason we are going to explain Why you should avoid nail bars! and only go to qualified nail technicians and beauty therapists. Many of the staff in these so called nail bars are not qualified in this country if at all below is just some of the important reason why you should not go in to one of these nail bars.
1. Poorly ventilated- strong vapours which clearly are not good for you as the staff wear masks (where’s yours then?)
2. Regardless of weather you have gel, acrylic or shellac they seem to always use a nail drill on the nail bed to even it out, what this is actually doing is thinning the nail bed, nail drills were designed to be used on hardened gel, acrylic and plastic extensions not your nail, this causes extreme splitting. Why you should avoid nail bars!
3. If nail extensions are not applied properly as they often rushed it can cause bacteria to form under the nails and you could end up with a fungi infection.
4. Acrylic, gel or shellac can just be soaked off using pure acetone. There is no need to use a nail drill to remove them which is what they tend to do in nail bars this can damage the nail bed further if to much pressure is applied. It is not advised you pull them off as this will also damage them further.
Acrylic /gel or Shellacs do not damage the nails it is the way they are applied and removed that does. Always go to a qualified nail technician or beauty therapist if you are not sure ask to see their qualifications if they have one this should not be an issue.
In Many cases a product called MMA has been known to be used in the procedure of acrylic nails, it is not recommended for use in acrylic nail products because it is much too hard, and can tear the nail off the finger easily. It is also solvent resistant, which makes it very difficult to remove. It takes a long time to remove MMA when soaking in acetone. Many technicians damage the nail plate when prepping for MMA, since that product needs grooves in the nail in order to stick well. A technician should always protect and preserve the natural nail under any enhancement product. And, finally, MMA should not be used in nail products because the FDA has determined that it is not safe for that purpose. Is it worth having nice nails on the outside for a couple of months just for them to be destroyed underneath the damage these bars cause on your nails lasts for years not just months.
Hopefully our Why you should avoid nail bars! will prevent the type of exstream damage to nails that nail bars create, they need to be better regulated by education the general public maybe one day they will be until then the above above reasons are Why you should avoid nail bars!

The correct makeup brush to use

The correct makeup brush to use
The correct makeup brush to use

When it comes to make up do you know The correct makeup brush to use

We are going to explain The correct makeup brush to use

With so many different makeup brushes out there how do you choose The correct makeup brush to use
When choosing your makeup brushes, it’s important to factor in the material the brushes are made of. The makeup formulas you use will help you determine whether to choose natural, real hair (i.e. sable or pony fibres) or synthetic, fake hair usually made of acrylic or plastic.
Natural brushes are better for dry products like blush and eyeshadow and synthetic brushes are best suited for cream or liquid products like concealer or foundation because they soak up less product than natural hair.
When you are choosing your brushes take into consideration the size of the brush and its  firmness try the brush out on your face before you buy to make sure it feels comfortable and does not irritate your skin. Makeup brushes are pricey, but are a worthwhile investment that can last a long time, so don’t rush when choosing which one to buy.
There are lots of different brushes that are all used for different things we are just going to show you the basic ones for now:
  • The foundation brush –  this can be round, fluffy , flat tipped and synthetic and is used for blending and buffing foundation onto the skin, The shape is perfect for a smooth application and will really work to cover pores for a flawless finish.  Only use the flat tipped brush for foundation cream, as it is easier to spread with this and use the others with  mineral foundations.
  • Blusher/bronzer loose powder brush – large round,  soft brush by dipping into the powder and tapping the excess off you then brush gently over the contours of the face.
  • Eye shadow brush – there are lots of different eyeshadow brushes but the first one to buy is a small, stiff, flat natural brush. This brush is used to apply an all over eyeshadow colour, as it will give your lids a smooth finish and more intense pigment than a fluffier brush would.
  • Eye shadow blending brush – A flower-shaped, soft natural brush blending brush for eyes,it is great as  it can get into the crease of your eye and define your lid with precision. Using a circular motion  blend in the eye shadow working from the outer corner backwards  until you cannot see any edges of colour.
  • Eyeliner and brow brush – is a small angled natural or synthetic brush,This is multi-purpose as it can be used on your lash line for eyeliner and your eye brows to fill in any gaps or to enhance them.
  • Lip brush – use small, flat, round-tipped brush.  It is the best-shaped brush to define your lips and will make a precise lip colour easy.
These are just the basic brushes but hopefully you will now know The correct makeup brush to use for your make up.

How to find the best mascara for you

How to find the best mascara for you

With so many different mascara’s to choose from thought we would help guiding you on How to find the best mascara for you

How to find the best mascara for you which hopefully will take the pain out of  which type of mascara you should be buying.
With  the sheer and amount of mascaras on the market it isn’t  surprising that we get confused on what one we actually need as to buying the latest one on the market. There are volumizing, thickening and lengthening formulas; bristle, plastic, curved, and straight wands; ones that declump, ones that purportedly help your lashes grow longer–there are even mascaras that vibrate. But with so many options on the table, how does we begin to choose the right mascara.
So how do you choose a mascara that’s natural but can be glammed up when you want it? We have done some research and this is what we found out.
Lets start with the brush.
Is there any real difference to having a bristle  brush or a moulded plastic brush ? – Neither one is better than the other it really depends on the formula of the mascara as to which one work will work best. Mascaras that claim to be curling often have curved brushes, and lengthening brushes tend to be straight and narrow with more widely spaced, almost comb-like bristles. For volume, look for thicker brushes with denser bristles. In general, brushes with shorter bristles are easier to control.
Do curling mascaras really work?  –  well the simple truth is  no not really. You just have to manage your expectations about ‘curling’ mascara  realistically it can’t do the same thing  that a a lash curler could. so we wouldn’t bother too much  type too much, with ones that claim to make your lashes curly.
Really its then down to choice as to what you  are wanting out of your mascara. we hope  you have found todays blog How to find the best mascara for you  helpful

How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions part 2

Today we are looking at How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions part 2

We are carrying on the blog about making your hair grow faster with How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions part 2

Yesterday we said we would carry on with  hair ,but today it is How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions part 2 , there are so many different way to to get your hair to grow we covered 4 yesterday and  thought we would continue today.
Vitamin And Minerals – There is lots of different hair and skin vitamin tablets out there  but  the best for hair are y Evening Primrose Oil tablets these help to regulate hormones, clear the  skin and promote hair growth. Fish liver oil capsules  are meant to be amazing for hair growth too.
Eat the right foods–  your diet which can promote hair growth, hair is made of protein, so apparently eating lots of protein (fish, meats, eggs) helps to speed hair growth up. Vitamin C is also good for hair growth. There are lots of guides on the internet with lists of foods that you can eat to make your hair grow, write yourself a list and try to add some of these simple and healthy things into your diet.
Sleep In A Hair Treatment – sleeping in a hair treatment helps hair grow a lot. When buying hair masks only pick ones that say to leave in for at least 10 minutes as good  good hair masks should be left on the hair for at least 10 minutes for them to really help hydrate  your hair.  One type to look out for is  argan or macadamia masks as they really work wonders for the hair.
Don’t Over Colour/Process Your Hair – you will see a massive  difference in how fast your hair grows if you leave your colour top up a little  longer. Try switching to semi permanent colour  as this is least damaging to your hair if you normally do a full head of colour.
Get Your Hair Cut –  you may think this is the last thing you want to so, but  if you want your hair to be healthy by  getting it cut regularly, you will prevent it from splitting at the ends and snapping off, resulting in stronger and longer hair.

How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions

Today we are looking at How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions

If you have had hair extensions taken out recently then our blog onHow to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions is for you

If you have recently had hair extensions removed you are properly dying to have that long hair back, we are going  to be talking you How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions. And hopefully you will  not just rush back to have them put back in straight away as this will just damage your hair after hair extensions you need to give your hair some tender loving care, and not cause any more trauma to the hair or follicles for a while.
Don’t use heat on your hair - we know is an obvious one, but by drying your hair with a hair dryer your dehydrating the hair, try reducing the amount of times a week you you  a dryer, as after hair extensions it is vital that  hair is keep hydrated to help it grow. If you absolutely  have  to use straightens  use one that tourmaline metal plates and use a lower setting this type of plates help protect the hair. But lets the hair dry naturally is the best way to help your hair grow faster.
Don’t over brush – you may have been advised to  brush your  hair often as it increases blood flow to the scalp which helps the hair follicles and then, makes it grow.  Allegedly  if you brush your hair lots of  times a day, the hair is more likely to grow due to the increased blood flow to the scalp, however, do be careful with this, as brushing your hair too much can cause snagging which makes the hair split. I’m sure you’ve been in the situation where you’ve been brushing your hair and loads of it has fallen out or snapped off? (your going to get some shedding) then maybe you need to be a little more  being gentle when brushing the hair.  It is advised  to start brushing the hair from the bottom, this de-knots the ends and gradually move  further up the hair. Why not try using a paddle brush as it covers a wider area and the bristles are usually gentler on the hair.
Don’t over do the products –   too many products, is actually bad for your hair, its knowing what products will help your hair grow and what won’t. There isn’t a miracle hair product that will make your hair grow over night unfortunately, but there are a number of products on the market that strengthen the hair which leads to hair growth. Think of your hair like a garden, you need nice, well looked after soil makes plants grow. You scalp needs to be looked after. One of the products that is highly recommended is  Macadamia oil when it comes to hair growth. But coconut oil and organ oil are also good choices.
Let Your Hair Get Dirty – It’s common knowledge not to wash your hair too much. It’s really bad for hair growth, washing your hair excessively gets rid of the natural oils which help it grow, so let your hair get dirty. If you know you’re not doing anything, leave your hair another day before washing it.
There is so many  different  ideas on How to make your hair grow faster after hair extensions that we will add some more tomorrow.

Smokey eyes using sellotape

Today we are looking at Smokey eyes using sellotape

Today we looking  at how to do Smokey eyes using sellotape

We know there are many ways to to get the smokey eye look but today we are looking at how to do Smokey eyes using sellotape .
Smokey eyes can be a bit daunting if you’re not confident with makeup.  Today we are looking at a slightly different method using sellotape which is a really easy way to create a strong and symmetrical smokey eye, without making a mess!
1. Apply primer to your eye lids and fill in your brows.
2. Pop your tape on! Make sure it is in the same place on each eye otherwise your makeup will be wonky.
3. If you’re wanting a dark look, use an eyepencil to fill in your lid and across your lashline, then blend with your brush, this will also help guide you when you place your eyeshadow.
4. Apply a dark eyeshadow over your eyeliner to set it, then blend. When using tape, it does  not matter if you end up blending too far out, the tape stops your eyeshadow going anywhere it shouldn’t!
5. You can  add another colour if you so wish blend the eyeshadow though the crease. You can use whatever and however many colours you like, as long as you blend them properly.
6. Apply eyeliner gel eyeliner blends better and gives a softer effect using sellotape which helps to create a flick.
7. Remove your tape. Carefully! It sticks quite well so don’t whip it off, I did, and had to take recovery time!
8. Soften the harsh line created by the tape with a foundation brush.
9. Add eyeliner under your eye. Use an angle brush and the colours you used on your eyelid, really focusing on darkening the outer corner.
10. Add  mascara and you’re good to go!
A smokey eye like this works really well with lots of contouring  and blending remember dramatic eyes only works when the lips are neutral.
We hope you have found todays blog on Smokey eyes using sellotape

Drawing  that winged look eyeliner can be very difficult to achieve, unless y you have been drawing on liquid liner for years and have now mastered it, but  don’t worry as we are going to tell you  how to get  that Perfect winged liquid liner with sellotape .
STEP 1
Take an inch-long piece of Scotch tape and press it to your hand a few times to remove some of its adhesive power. This will help it from sticking too severely to your delicate eye area.
STEP 2
Place the tape underneath your bottom lashes at the outer corner of your eye and angle it towards your temple. Making sure not to angle the tape towards the end of your brow, otherwise your wing can take on more of an Amy Winehouse-esque hooked appearance. Unless of course thats the look your after.
STEP 3
Start at the middle of your upper lash line, which is where the liquid line should begin to thicken. Draw a stripe to the outer corner of your eye using short, dash-like strokes, you can if you prefer use a felt-tip eyeliner pen.
Be sure to place your pinkie finger against your cheek for added stability and control.
STEP 4
Using the tape like a straight-edged ruler, continue drawing your line along the tape past the outer corner making sure the liner gradually gets thinner and thinner as you draw the line.
STEP 5
Remove the tape and proudly revel in your perfect winged eyeliner
