Maintaining long nails

Maintaining long nails is easy todo if you know what you are doing.

Today we are  looking at Maintaining long nails.

Our nails are composed of laminated layers of protein called keratin. As the new cells grow, they push out the older ones and so the nails become longer. Nails without any ridges, dents and discolouration are healthy. So what do we need to do when Maintaining long nails ?
There are some ground rules for keeping your nails healthy;

Keep them clean and dry: Bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms can grow under your nails due to moisture and dirt. This can lead to painful infections.
Trim and file them: It is very important to trim your nails from time to time. The cells which were pushed out earlier might become brittle and break if you don’t trim them properly. This in turn may damage the length of the nail completely. Again, well-trimmed and nicely shaped nails enhance the beauty of your fingers.
Apply hand and nail cream: Moisturising is very important and even more important is using the right cream for moisturising. Don’t just buy any old hand cream make sure it is  specially designed for your nails as well.
Eat for your nails: Calcium plays an important role in the growth of your nails. Along with it vitamin A, C, E and B12, folic acid and proteins are important. These can be found in most fruit and veg so if you are eating healthily you are on the right track.
Wear gloves when needed: Do not expose your nails to a lot of moisture, harsh chemicals, and detergents. Use gloves whenever required.
Give your nails a break from  nail posh : Don’t always wear nail varnish all the time your nails need a break as nail varnish and nail varnish remover are very drying can cause your nails to become brittle and weak.
Don’t Pick your nail varnish off: picking nail varnish off your nails stripes  part of the nail bed off which can  cause your nails to tear more easily.
If you follow these tips you will find that Maintaining long nails is easy.

What are your colours

What are your colours for all seasons

So What are your colours, lets take a look

In today’s blog we are going to look at what colours are right for you so What are your colours?
Skin tones and hair colour can be enhanced by particular shades and these can be put into different categories using seasonal colour palettes and knowing the tones that work for you is very helpful.  We are going to tell you which colours work best with your complexion and enhance your features. What are your colours
Spring Palette
Complexion: The skin tone is light and warm with a golden yellow or peach tone. People with this colouring tend to blush easily and may have freckles.
Eye Colour: The eyes can be either a light blue or green and may have flecks of gold.
Hair Colour: The hair is usually blonde, however, they can also be dark or red haired.
Hair Shades for a Spring Colour Palette: People who have this colouring often have a golden tones to their hair colour. You should therefore avoid ashen tones and choose warm colours instead. Ideally use golden/honey blondes, golden brown, copper and warm light reddish tones  like golden red or strawberry blonde. Warm, light to medium brown tones also work well. Cool skin types suit darker hair colours so these are not for you, these will be be far too dramatic for you.
Summer Palette
Complexion:  If you have summer colouring then you have rosy skin with a bluish to violet undertone.
Eye Colour: Summer eyes are blue or green or if they are brown they have specks of blue, grey or green.
Hair Colour: The natural hair colour is blonde or brunette with an ashen base colour.

Hair Shades for a Summer Colour Palette:
Light blonde highlights give a little more radiance to the hair. One or two low-lights of a darker shade can also bring your hair to life.
If you decide to tint or colour your hair, ash blonde, ash brown or platinum blonde are your colours. Red hair colour should have burgundy or mauve tint, but you should avoid red hair colour with a mahogany, copper or golden blonde tinge as these will make you look older.
Autumn Palette
Complexion: The skin colour is often quite light with a deep bronze tone and has a yellowish golden tint with some freckles.
Eye Colour: The eye colour can be shades of green, blue and turquoise.
Hair Colour: The hair can be dark brown with reddish tones or red shades from copper to mahogany.

Hair Shades for an Autumn Colour Palette:
Accentuate your hair colour with warm red and copper tones. Also warm brown tones like golden brown, coppery gold or chestnut can be flattering.  Use golden tones not ash tones if you want to colour your hair blonde.
Winter Palette
Complexion: The skin is usually very light.
Eye Colour: Dark brown, grey, ice-blue or intensely green eye colour is a contrast from the white of the eyes.
Hair Colour: The natural hair colour is black to bluish black or dark to medium brown.
Hair Colours for a Winter Colour Palette: The rich tones of the natural hair radiate warmth. Enhance your natural colour by giving it a bluish-black gloss. Aubergine and mahogany hair colour accentuates dark hair.
Lightening the hair often leads to awkward reddish tones, which does not suit the Winter skin tone. Highlights are not advised as they also tend to look reddish after lightening and make you look older. If you still want to colour your hair you should use ash tones. Avoid yellowish golden shades of hair colour because they detract from the radiance of your skin.
You really need to know what your skin tone is before dying your hair and you can then answer the question What are your colours.

What causes cracked lips?

Dry cracked lipids can be very painful but What causes cracked lips?

Today we are going to be looking at What causes cracked lips?

What causes cracked lips? Cracked Lips are usually a mild symptom that occurs as a result of environmental factors, personal habits such as licking your lips, or mild dehydration and the common cold.  All cause cracked lips.
Cracked lips is  rarely a sign of any  other health issues. But is quite often caused by the environment such as;
Cold weather
Dry weather
Indoor heating
Sun damage
Wind exposure
All these can lead to cracked dry lips but its not just the environment that can cause cracked lips. Other common causes of dry cracked lips are;
Allergic reaction to lip products such as lipstick or lip balm
Breathing through the mouth
Cold sores (herpes simplex virus infections)
Common cold (viral respiratory infection)
Mild dehydration
Repeated licking of the lips
Vitamin deficiency

How to treat  chapped lips!
Lips lack the oil and sweat glands that are two of the main moisture providers and retainers in ordinary skin.  So therefore useless you look after your lips with balms and spf 15 of  above you are most likely to suffer with cracked lips.  Now you may think that if you lick your lips you are rehydrating your lips but the fact is your not. Lips either have an extremely thin or entirely absent protective outer layer, which makes them particularly vulnerable to liquid loss. So saliva evaporates from lips very quickly and that can leave your lips feeling drier and worse off than they already were.
Don’t just buy any old  lip balm that  you happen to see at he checkout  at the grocery store because these lip balms may not have the best ingredients for your cracked lips,  particularly if  your lips are severely damaged. Apart from an SPF lip balm  you should look  at lip balms with beeswax, phenol and petroleum jelly . (If you see soft paraffin or petrolatum, those are basically synonymous with petroleum jelly.) If your lips are particularly painful, you may want to grab something that also has ingredients like camphor and menthol to help provide some relief.
But like everything prevention is better than cure, keep your self hydrated apply a good spf lip balm which should be applied even if  you are out in  the cold don’t just lick your lips remember it won’t help.
So now you know What causes cracked lips?

Sagging skin

Do you have Sagging skin?

If you so have Sagging skin then take a look at todays blogSagging skin

When you look at yourself in the mirror do you see Sagging skin in the reflection.  Unfortunately skin is subject to the ravages of the sun, gravity and aging.
The most common cause of sagging skin is aging.  As you age  your skin loses the collagen and elastin, your skin’s supportive connective tissue, that make it look soft, plump and youthful. In addition, facial muscles can weaken with age which takes its toll too. Getting older means more exposure to the dreaded pull of gravity which we know causes skin to sag a little further down with each passing day.
Sun exposure is another reason for skin losing its elasticity. The sun’s powerful rays damage skin cells which over time can increase the effects of aging.  All the ultraviolet radiation you soak up while getting the perfect tan which makes us feel that we look better also breaks down your collagen and elastin which can lead to saggy skin and wrinkles.  Can’t win then!
Weight loss can also cause the skin to sag especially when  losing a large amount of weight over a short period of time.
To help or prevent sagging skin it is important to use a moisturiser that contains vitamin A, vitamin C, alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid. This may provide some visible tightening.  Drinking plenty of water to keep you hydrated can also help with sagging skin.
If you find that this isn’t enough to get rid of or minimise your sagging skin then you may want to look into some specialised beauty treatment such as laser treatment or radiofrequency treatments.
Another way to beat that sagging skin is to replace lost collagen to fill out the skin. Collagen, fat cells, hyaluronic acid and other fillers can be injected under the skin to tighten skin. These treatments may last anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending on which filler is used.
So there we are, a few facts on Sagging skin, we hope this has helped.

Changes in nail growth

Changes in nail growth as we age?

Changes in nail growth can occur for different reasonsChanges in nail growth

Changes in nail growth happen throughout life for different reasons, which we are going to look at today.
Children and young teens are the luckiest when it comes to having nice healthy long nails and they heal and grow back very quickly.
As parents of small children will remember having to cut their nails almost every other day.  This carry’s on until they reach puberty which at this stage the nails growth slows down to less than 50% of its previous rate of growth.
So this would indicate that age does play a big part in the growth of the nails but health is also a main factor.
Illnesses and certain drugs such as chemotherapy can slow nail growth down or even cause nails to fall off.  Pregnant women often experience the opposite effect to that as their hormones  boost metabolism and increase circulation, which causes nails and hair to grow more quickly.
Finger nails are said to grow faster in the summer compared with the winter but we are not sure why, it has been said that maybe in the summer nails are used more often and exposed to the elements which could help them grow faster.
Fingernails grow about three to four times faster than toenails do and fingernails grow about 3 mm in a month. If you lose a fingernail it will take four to six months to regrow completely and toenails take a year to a year and a half to grow from cuticle to tip.
It is always important to take notice of change in your nails and see your GP if you have any concerns.
So there we go there are a few reasons for Changes in nail growth.

Which fruit help the skin?

Do you know Which fruit help the skin?

We are going to be looking at Which fruit help the skin?

Have you ever wonder Which fruit help the skin? We have so we thought we would take a look  the different types of fruit and how they can help us stay youthful looking.
Considering as your skin is the largest organ in your body, it makes sense that what you eat will affect your skin.  So adding nutritious fruits can help you reduce the signs of aging, brighten  up a dull complexion, and even firm up sagging skin. And of course the necessary vitamins in fruit will help out the rest of your body too.
We are going to start of  with purple an red fruits such as  Black grapes, cherries plums, blueberries, strawberries, they are high in  concentrations of antioxidants. Although research is still inconclusive,  about antioxidants especially the type known as flavonoids are believed to neutralize free radicals that can damage skin cells. It’s easy to remember which foods have antioxidants because they’re rich in colour.
It is a  known fact that some fruits are high in fibre, which  helps rid your body of toxins. It may also help prevent toxins from even reaching your skin by simply moving them through your intestines and ushering them out as waste. Several fruits, including pears, dates, apples, blueberries and bananas, are full of fiber, and their natural sweetness can satisfy that desire for processed sugar.
If you stuffer from  dry skin, you might want to try avocado. Even though these fruits are high in fat, they’re high in monounsaturated fat, which is typically considered a “good” fat. Monounsaturated fats are essential for your skin, because they help moisturize it and replace oil that gets washed away during your cleansing routine
We hope you have found our blog on Which fruit help the skin? Helpful we know we did until next time bye.
