Update on the effects of MI

We have an Update on the effects of MI

Here is an Update on the effects of MI

We have an Update on the effects of MI as there have been further reports in the Mail online this week.
A few days ago we told you about a preservative called methylisothiazolinone (MI) which is used in cosmetics and has been reported to cause allergic reactions in some people. We have now seen an article on Mail online to warn parents that baby wipes are making some children come out in painful, red rashes and that the chemical preservative MI has been blamed for this.
The report states that the reaction has been mistaken for conditions such as eczema.
Researchers suggest parents only use baby wipes when they are travelling and that it is safer to use paper towels with water whilst at home.
The report also states that cosmetic giant Johnson & Johnson says it is so concerned, it is taking the chemical out of its best-selling Piz Buin sun cream and other products and Molton Brown is doing the same, also big brands such as Nivea, L’Oreal, Clarins and Sanctuary are under pressure to take action as doctors say adverse reactions to the chemical have reached ‘epidemic proportions.
Skin experts say manufacturers should urgently remove the chemical from products that are left on the skin. It can cause rashes, lumps, blisters, itchy eyes and facial swelling.
MI is a preservative designed to extend shelf life, and has no useful properties for users of the products and experts say the scale of the allergic reactions to the chemical, which has been used increasingly since 2005, is alarming.
A leading dermatologist has said we’ve never seen anything quite like it. Contact allergy to this permitted preservative is now of epidemic proportions. Immediate action needs to be taken by industry.
This is our brief Update on the effects of MI,please keep an eye on news reports on this situation and for more information check out the Mail online.
