Why do your eyebrows stop growing ?

Today we are going to having a look at Why do your eyebrows stop growing ?

Why do your eyebrows stop growing ? Is a question we get asked a lot

Why do your eyebrows stop growing ? Now this one baffles people as hair everywhere still seems to keep on growing so why not eyebrows?
The hairs life cycle
All hair whether  it is your  head, eyebrows,  eyelashes or underarms  grows in  3 phases.  The only thing that differs (from, your lashes to the hair on your  head  is how long the phases takes. The three phases are called anagen which is the growth phase . How long anagen lasts is determined genetically, and varies between the sexes and even  from one person to another. It is the length of this time that determines how long the hair will grow. For head hair, the anagen phase can last from three to as much as seven years. The next phase is catagen  this phase lasts between two and four weeks. No pigment is made during this time, and the follicle stops producing hair. The base of the follicle moves upwards towards the surface of the skin. the final phase is telogen this phase lasts for three or four months. During this time a new hair begins to grow from the hair follicle. As it grows upwards the old hair will be shed naturally or may be pulled out. Tweezing is easily and painlessly done with telogen hairs.
As we age
As we age, the hair cycle can become shorter ( although this isn’t true for everyone and depends on your genes). The follicles gradually give up producing long, strong hair, and the hairs become thinner and shorter. This can also  happen to lashes, brows, leg and arm hair and so on.
Whats the difference between the hair on our head and our eyebrows?
Well actually not much, the growth cycle of eyebrows  are a mere blink of the eye compared to head hair. Eyebrows take up to 64 (give or take) days to come back fully. If you pull a hair out of a follicle another one will grow up in its place. “Well if thats the case why haven’t my eyebrows grown back i hear you say” well this is a bit of a mystery  as  there doesn’t seem to be a common logical reason why this happens. There is a lot of theories why this happens, one of them is if you apply creams to your face and forehead around the eyebrows this can block the hair follicle and prevent the hairs from growing. Other theories are that constant friction from clothing being pulled on and off face rubbing on pillows, has the same effect that your  trousers  have on your legs. Another is scar tissue around the follicle  from plucking could also be a problem although there seems to be very little evidence that would in fact happen unless it was an actual scar.
Why do your eyebrows stop growing ? Its not conclusive but at lease a couple of reason why it happens.

How to make your hair grow

How to make your hair grow fast

Home remedies on How to make your hair grow

Have you ever wanted to know How to make your hair grow? I know i have so we did some research and found some home remedies that could help your hair grow a little faster.
Apple cider vinegar rinse
If you’re looking for really long hair,  then you should try apple cider vinegar. Basically, you  mix apple cider vinegar with a bit of water and then use it to rinse your hair after every shampoo. This will stimulate your hair follicles and help it grow much quicker Some vinegar has a noticeable odor afterwards, but apple cider is a safe variety. If you still notice a smell or simply want to play it safe, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your vinegar when you rinse.
Avoid silicone based hair products
Although silicon-based hair care products create an illusion of healthier, smoother hair, they are actually bad for your hair in the long run. Why? Because they tend to coat the hair shaft and seal out moisture, clogging hair follicles, making your hair weaker, and eventually preventing your hair from faster growth. So avoid them as much possible.
No conditioner on the scalp
This is  a definite no no.If  you apply hair conditioner to your scalp the conditioner tends to create flyaway hair  and can make it look frizzy . It also tends to weigh your hair down and, most importantly, could lead to dandruff. To  apply conditioner correctly, put your hair in a ponytail and apply the product from the hair band down.
Don’t over wash
Lots of people think that washing your hair every single day is a necessity, but think about how much harm all that shampoo and conditioner is doing to your hair. Forget about growing, your hair will have a hard enough time simply trying to survive after being exposed to all those harsh chemicals on a daily basis. Ideally, you should wash your hair 2 or 3 times a week. If you need to wash it rather us, use dry shampoos in between. This way, your hair will produce its natural protective oils and will get a chance to grow.
We hope you have found these few tips on How to make your hair grow helpful. If you know any others we would love to hear from you.

The danger of Fake cosmeticsFake cosmetics

Police warning on Fake cosmetics

In today’s blog we are bringing something very important to your attention, Fake cosmetics.  You may or may not have heard about these in the news lately, it was actually reported in 2012 as well so why are these products still around.
If you’ve ever bought cheap ‘designer’ cosmetics that seemed too good to be true, that’s probably because they are so stop using them now. A report from the City of London Police has revealed the true dangers of buying counterfeit beauty goods.  This includes makeup, skincare, perfume and electricals that can even prove to be life threatening.
Tests have shown some fake cosmetics are laced with poisonous chemicals, including cyanide and toxic substances such as arsenic, mercury and lead.
Unfortunately that is not the worst of it, counterfeit makeup is often produced in un-sanitised and un-hygienic factories and there have been cases where rat droppings and poison have also been found in them.  The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit said. Not only could users experience allergic reactions including irritation, rashes and burns, but potential longer-term health problems too.
It is estimated that in the UK alone people are spending up to £90 million every year on fake goods. Dodgy websites are the main rip-off merchants and pretend to be selling the real deal, so always check the company that you are buying from before purchasing.
The new awareness campaign set up by the police is saying “wake up – don’t fake up”  They also say trust your instincts, only deal with reputable sellers, and if you are not sure whether the items are genuine do not enter your payment details, it isn’t worth the risk.
So let this be a warning to us all to not buy Fake cosmetics.

How to deal with facial hair

How to deal with facial hair

Let’s take a look at How to deal with facial hair

How to deal with facial hair is our blog todayHow to deal with facial hair

Ladies often wonder How to deal with facial hair when it comes, so we are going to give you some tips on this today.
There are a few different reasons that a lady can develop facial hair, it can more often be associated with women of certain ethnic groups and older women but facial hair can become more visible on any woman of any age.  The growth of facial hair can also be as a result of a person’s genes or it can be brought on by hormonal changes. Whatever the cause, when facial hair does become noticeable on a woman, it can lead to embarrassment and it can cause anxiety too.  This is why it is important to have the correct information about removing it.
Do not shave your facial hair– Yes, men do shave their facial hair but remember they also have stubble and often end up with small cuts on their faces.  As a woman you really shouldn’t shave your face, it will not provide you with a long term solution.
Remove facial hair with wax–  Just like any other wax, a facial wax will remove the hairs by their roots, so it will last for several weeks. There is a downside though, which is that your face, especially your upper lip is very sensitive and there is no denying that waxing your face will hurt. Having said that, the pain doesn’t last for long so you might think it’s a small price to pay for a few hair free weeks.  Not recommended for sensitive skin types.
Threading facial hair– If you do have more sensitive skin then threading would be better for you as it doesn’t take the top layer of skin with it which waxing does. Threading is more commonly used for shaping eyebrows but it is just as effective for removing facial hair. Threading is not painless but it is very effective.
Hair removal creams– A painless way to remove facial hair is with hair removal creams. Known as depilatory treatments, these creams or lotions dissolve the unwanted hair completely. You have to be very careful to follow the instructions as misuse can lead to chemical burns on the face and even scarring.
Laser hair removal– For a more permanent treatment you could try Laser hair removal which removes the hair by destroying the root with pulses of light. This is a long lasting treatment that may become permanent after a few treatments. It is however, quite expensive to have done and you may need regular touch up treatments to keep the hair away.
Permanent hair removal using Electrolysis- Electrolysis after a few treatments is a permanent solution to the problem of facial hair. The treatment works by giving the hairs a small electric shock, which kills the hair follicle and stops the hair growing. The downsides are: that it is a time consuming treatment, a relatively expensive one and it can be painful, though not as painful as waxing is.  The upside being of course that it your facial hair will be a thing of the past.
We hope you have found these How to deal with facial hair tips useful.

Looking after your toenails

Looking after your toenails

Looking after your toenails the correct wayLooking after your toenails

Looking after your toenails is important

Looking after your toenails should be as important as looking after the rest of your body but they can often be forgotten.
As most people lead busy lives they don’t always care properly for their nails, especially their toe nails. Today we are going to give you some tips on caring for you toenails.
Many people spend their whole day on their feet and the last thing that is needed is pain from problem feet, an ingrowing toenails.
Nails are made from a strong protein named Keratin and they develop well if you are eating a good balanced diet which should include protein, vitamins and minerals.  Your balanced diet will also help to improve your skin and hair.
Make sure you dry your feet and toes properly, using a soft clean towel dry between and under the toes. This will remove the moisture that fungal infections like to breed in.
You should always cut your toenails straight across as if you cut too much around the corners you will end up with ingrown toenails. This can also happen if you cut them too short. Ingrown toenails can become very painful and can take some time to heal, so it’s best to prevent them in the first place.  Looking after your cuticles on your toenails is also important but you must be careful when doing this, it is advised to get a professional to do this but if you do have ago yourself then make sure that you are gentle when doing so and use tiny circular motions and gradually push the cuticles back.  Using a cuticle oil daily is also recommended.
Properly fitted socks and shoes are essential to keep your toenails healthy, this is especially important for children as they are still developing.  Also fresh socks everyday are a must, we hope this is already a must for you and not something new.
If you follow this advice you should have flip flop ready toes in no time, so Looking after your toenails really is worth it.

Benefits of threading

Benefits of threading

There are a few Benefits of threadingBenefits of threading

Let’s take a look at the Benefits of threading

What are the Benefits of threading? There are a few so read on to find out what they are.
So first of all what is threading?  Threading originated in the Middle East and has been practiced for centuries as a technique of removing hair and is now becoming popular in the West.  It is a very delicate procedure, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin. During this method a piece of 100% cotton thread is used. It is twisted and pulled along the area of unwanted hair, which lift the hair out directly from the follicle. The twisting action of the thread traps the hair and lifts it out from the follicle. The pain during Threading is no worse than that during tweezing or waxing. A small pinch is felt with the removal of hair, which many clients find minimal due to the large coverage area treated at one time.
Does it Hurt?
The answer is yes as hair removal is going to hurt, it is similar to tweezing, but the process is much, much quicker. Some people say they have very little pain from threading, but it has a lot to do with the skill of the technician.
Benefits compared to Waxing
• Does not peel off a layer of skin.
• Hair does not grow back as fast.
• Skin does not get as red and irritated.
• Can pull out individual hairs.
• Hair does not need to be long, but just above the skin.
• Will not produce more hairs or make hairs stronger.
• Will pick up the finest hairs from the skin surface
• Leaves skin smooth
So you see that there are many Benefits of threading and if you haven’t tried it yet then maybe you should.

What is Melanin ?

Today we are going to look at What is Melanin ?

What is Melanin ? A lot of people don’t fully understand what it is.

So What is Melanin ? Melanin is a substance that gives the skin and hair its natural colour and is  also known as pigment. But Melanin doesn’t just colour the skin and hair it is also responsible  for colouring the iris of the eye, feathers, and scales. ( not that we have feathers or scales)
Some people have darker skin  which means they have higher amounts of melanin in their bodies By contrast, those with less pigment have lighter colouring. Melanin,is formed as part of the process of metabolizing an amino acid called tyrosine. But in the e skin, melanin is formed by cells called melanocytes. Certain medical conditions, such as albinism, are associated with the lack of melanin. Albinism is a condition marked by the absence of a normal amount of pigment in the body. Animals, humans, and even plants can have albinism.
Melanin provides many benefits. Melanin provides a natural protection against the harmful effects of these rays. However, it does not provide complete protection from the sun, and individuals with darker skin tones are still at risk from the sun’s damaging rays. So some protection should still be worn in the form of suncream/oil.
Generally, those with darker skin tones are able to tolerate exposure to the sun for hours without getting sunburn. Unlike people with lighter skin who  may get sunburnt after spending only minutes in the midday sun.
Melanin is also very important for our eyes as it  minimalists the number of light beams that enter the eye. and the  absorption of scattered light within the eye. The darker the eyes the better the eyesight tends to be as blue eyes have the least amount of melanin in  quite often people with blue eyes will also have sensitive eyes.
We hope you have found todays blog on What is Melanin ? until next time stay safe.

Drinkable skincare

Drinkable skincare

Is Drinkable skincare really going to workDrinkable skincare

Let’s take a look at Drinkable skincare

Today we are going to look into Drinkable skincare and see if we think it actually works.
When it comes to skincare and especially anti aging solutions, there is always someone somewhere trying to come up with the next best thing.  This seems to be drinkable skincare at the moment.  For example there are collagen drinks that claim to boost the body’s natural collagen production. These beauty brews and powders which often use fish collagen, combined with flavors to make them more palatable can be sipped or stirred into other beverages.

We have researched and found that this is not actually possible as Collagen is a type of protein that will be broken down into amino acids and digested by the body, which means it would never make it to the skin.
The best drink for your skin is actually water, so make sure you are always hydrated.  Proper nutrition is helpful to have healthy skin. If you are not getting enough protein in your diet, milk is an excellent source.  The best way to keep healthy skin is sunscreen and moisturiser used daily and avoiding tobacco products will really help too.
We are now moving onto a different drinkable skincare product which is Hyaluronic acid.   It is a brilliant skincare ingredient and you will find it in skincare designed for dehydrated and dry skin. It’s a great anti aging ingredient as it can hold up to one thousand times its own weight in water and genuinely makes skincare more effective.  When applied to the skin it will only ever absorb into the top layer. Fountain’s Hyaluronic Acid supplement claims to be the first supplement in liquid form which has an extremely high concentration of hyaluronic acid and contains ginger to aid absorption.
The recommended dose is 2 teaspoons a day but it apparently has a strange texture so you can just add it to another drink if you would like to.
We have not personally tried any Drinkable skincare but please let us know if you have and tell us what you thought.

What is carboxy therapy?

What is carboxy therapy ? And what does it do?

Today we are looking at What is carboxy therapy ? And its benefits to the face

So for those  who may have wondered What is carboxy therapy ?We are going to looking at what isand the benefits are of carboy therapy on the face.
What is Carboxy therapy ?
Carboxy therapy is the administration of carbon dioxide [CO2] gas for therapeutic purposes. Carbon Dioxide is the gas that gives carbonated drinks their fizz. And  should not be confused with Carbon Monoxide gas, which is a    by product of oil combustion that can be deadly.
Carboxy Therapy has been used in the body for decades. The technique was  originally developed to improve circulation in people who had narrowing of their arteries. But now  is also quite often used within the beauty industry to successfully treat following issues which stem mostly from diminished circulation:
Cellulite
Stretch Marks and Scars
Loose skin and wrinkles
Under Eye Circles
Hair loss
How does  Carboxy work?
Carboxytherapy uses a series of small injections with a thin needle attached to a tube which delivers tiny quantities of medical grade carbon dioxide below the skin’s surface in a controlled flow.
Carboxy therapy for dark under eye circles
Carboxy therapy  is an  effective treatment for dark circles under the eyes. In the majority of cases these circles are caused by poor blood circulation beneath the lower eyelids, known as vascular pooling. But can also be caused by darker pigmentation.
By injecting a small amount of carbon dioxide gas just beneath the skin of the lower eyelid, circulation is increased and dark under-eye circles are markedly improved. The treatment takes about five minutes, and is virtually painless and risk-free.  You will require a series of 2-6 treatments spaced one week apart to achieve a great result.
Does Carboxy Hurt?
Carboxy therapy doesn’t hurt; it just feels a little un comfortable. Different techniques are  used to treat the eyelids, stretch-marks, scars, and fat deposits, so  the sensation is slightly different depending upon what is actually being treated.
Are there any side effects associated with carboxytherapy? The only real possible side effect of carboxytherapy is the potential for a bruise at the injection site. Usually, the eyelids can be treated without leaving a mark.
How much does Carboxy Therapy Cost?
Carboxy treatments start at £100 per session
We will cover What is carboxy therapy ? And the benefits on the body at a later date.

Nail care tips

Today we are doing a reminder on Nail care tips

Although we have covered this before we have decided to just run over the key areas of Nail care tips

Theses are some of the most important Nail care tips to consider when doing  your nails at home.  There are things to consider when filing your nails .
Choosing the right nail file.
The most important tip you should consider before filing your nails, is to choose the right nail file. Avoid using a metal nail file, because it weakens the nails and causes peeling. Your best choice would be a glass nail file or a foam nail file.
Prepare your nails.
Before filing your nails, make sure to soak the tips of your fingers in a bowl with warm soapy water for a couple of minutes. then dry your hands remembering to dry in-between your fingers.
Clip your nails.
If you want to shorten your nails, use a nail clipper rather than a nail file. Nail files should only be used to shape your nails and not for trimming.
File in one direction.
When filing your nails,it is important to file in one direction. Do Not file your nails in a back-and-forth sawing motion, this will cause  your nails to peel and split more easily. The best way to file your nails, is to use a side-to-center motion.
Hold the nail file correctly.
When filing your nails, make sure to hold the nail file flat against the nail tip. Don’t angle the nail file while using it, as your nails will be more prone to thinning and breakage. If you want to round of your nails you can then use the nail file at a very slight angle.
Finish off with a nail buffer.
Using a nail buffer  will help smooth out any rough edges and will help you get shiny nails. But don’t over do this as it can thin the nail bed down only go over a maximum of 6 times.
Nail care tips are are an important part of nail care
