Misusing moisturiser

www.bbeautiful4u.co.uk

Have you been Misusing moisturiser

Many people do Misusing moisturiser

We are going to look out how you could be Misusing moisturiser.
If you’ve been contending with dry skin, you’ve probably already tried a moisturiser , if not dozens.  But while moisturisers are a crucial part of dry skin care, experts say that we don’t always use them very well.
A common mistake that some people make is when applying moisturiser they apply it straight onto dry skin, when it’s least likely to help. Moisturiser should be applied to the skin when it is still damp. That way the moisturiser is trapping the moisture into on your skin. Your skin shouldn’t be too wet just pat yourself dry with a towel or drip dry a little and put it on and let it soak in for a few minutes.
Make sure you get the right type of moisturiser,  people with dry skin should get mild moisturisers that contain no perfumes or alcohols. Often a simple budget moisturiser can do a good job. The moisturiser must also be thick and greasy in order to seal in the moisture needed for good dry skin care.
One simple moisturiser test is to put some of your lotion in the palm of your hand and flip your hand over. If it runs or drips, it’s not thick enough for dry skin.
Those suffering from dry skin problems are prone to having a slightly allergic skin.  They shouldn’t use conventional moisturisers, rather use moisturisers for sensitive skin  because most contemporary moisturisers contain active compounds that can irritate the skin, adding to the allergic reaction.
So if you have dry skin be extra careful not to be Misusing moisturiser.

What causes dark circles under your eyes

Dark circles, or bags under your eyes, have many causes but What causes dark circles under your eyes:Have you ever wondered What causes dark circles under your eyes

Today’s topic is What causes dark circles under your eyes

Dark circles, or bags under your eyes, have many causes but What causes dark circles under your eyes:
  • Increased melanin (also called hyperpigmentation also post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation due to allergies (‘allergic shiners’)
  • Fat loss beneath the eye or shadowing due to skin laxity
  • Broken blood vessels
  • Hard living – too much caffeine and tobacco and too little sleep is a common cause of eye puffiness and bags.

Here are some solutions for under-eye circles and bags

Sleep -  Getting enough sleep will help minimise dark under-eye circles, no matter what the cause. Sleep not only helps keep eyes bright, it also aids your body in repairing cell damage to your skin.
Reduce alcohol and caffeine. Though they may perk you up in the short term, caffeine and alcohol don’t do the same for your skin. They can cause mild dehydration, making dark circles more obvious.
Choose a lighter shade in your concealer. A concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone can help disguise under-eye circles. A concealer with an SPF of 15 or higher provides double benefits.
Lots of things can lead to puffy eyes – from too much to too little sleep, from eating poorly to getting older. To help reduce the appearance of eye puffiness, consider these suggestions:
Drink. Staying well-hydrated can help prevent puffy eyes. Drinking plenty of healthy liquids, especially water, helps keep overall skin tone firm and full looking.
Cut back on salt. Retaining body fluid can cause puffy, doughy looking skin. Reduce your salt intake will help reduce the tendency to retain excess water. An easy way to cut back on salt is to reduce the amount of  processed foods you eat.
Use cool compresses. Some skin experts suggest the de-puffing power of chilled, moist green tea bags. Cool cucumber slices or a bag of frozen peas or carrots wrapped in a cloth on the eyes for 10 to 15 minutes may also help or a gel eye-mask could also do the trick.
We hope some of these suggestions will help you to understand What causes dark circles under your eyes.

Why do we lose lashes

Why do we lose lashesHave you ever wondered Why do we lose lashes

Today’s blog is on Why do we lose lashes

We all notice it happening  but Why do we lose lashes we are going to be explaining why this happens and what we can do to minimise it happening
Abuse can damage lashes, so that they fail to grow in as thick and long as they did when we were younger. Like other hair, eyelashes naturally fall out once they have finished their life cycle, Other factors that can have an impact on you losing eyelash such as alopecia, eyelid inflammation and chemotherapy.
You can be your eyelashes’ worst enemy. Wear and tear can result from rubbing or tugging at eyelids, sleeping in mascara (the stiffness can break lashes), and wearing water-proof mascara, which can be drying.
To look after your lashes, don’t pull them out or rub your eyes too often, If you are rubbing your eyes because they feel itchy or uncomfortable, visit your G.P to find out what’s irritating them so this can be treated.
If you wear waterproof mascara this is harder to remove use a baby oil to remove rather than rub to hard, as the lash root is very delicate and lashes can easily break due to our daily habits
Try these tips to keep your eyelashes in good shape:
  • Use a gentle remover and pat or dab at the lids rather than rubbing or pulling
  • Never tug at lashes
  • If you use a lash curler, make sure you’re not pulling on eyelids at all and only use befor applying your mascara
  • If you want to remove clumps from mascara, do it when the mascara is still wet and easy to comb through
And remember  to throw away old mascara will also help keep lashes – and eyes – healthy. Otherwise, germs can contaminate the mascara and lead to infections.
We hope this has explained Why do we lose lashes  and what we need to not do to keep them longer.

What causes dry skin

What causes dry skin or why is my skin dry?

We are going to look at What causes dry skin  in today’s blog

With this rubbish weather we have been having many of us have been suffering from dry skin but What causes dry skin.
Dry skin is not just a sign of a skin condition or disease, but is simply caused by harsh soaps, itchy clothing, misusing moisturiser, and long, hot showers.medications you take can also be a culprit not to forget the medical conditions of diabetes, psoriasis, hypothyroidism, and malnutrition – all of theses can also cause severe dry skin.
Our skin  is coated in a thin layer of natural lipids, or fatty substances. They keep in moisture, leaving the skin soft and supple.dry skin can be caused by something in the environment – or something you’re doing to your skin, this strips away the fatty oils, leaving your skin unprotected. Sometimes it can be something internal causing a skin condition such as the menopause, or a genetic predisposition is making your skin dry out.
Dry, itchy skin can appear anywhere, but is  most common on the arms, hands, lower legs and abdomen.  Dry skin is often felt more than it’s seen, but on some people it can be noticeable and make them feel self conscious about it,  for many black people, dry skin is  specially a  concern, since the flakes of skin can look grey.
If untreated, dry skin can sometimes lead to dermatitis  an  inflammation of the skin.  The good news is that just as most causes of dry skin are external, most cures for dry skin are external. With careful dry skincare, you can usually solve the problem.
We hope this helps you understand  What causes dry skin and puts your mind at rest.

Realistic Expectations with Make up

When using make up we tend not  to  Realistic Expectations with Make up

You need to have Realistic Expectations with Make up

Many women need help with having   Realistic Expectations with Make up, as some seem to think that make up is a miracle product although some products  are pretty good it is unlikely to transform you into a super model.
We are going to look at some make products what you can expect from them:
Foundation
Realistic -  foundation  evens out variation in skin tone.
Not Realistic  - it is not  realistic to expect a natural-looking result if you are attempting to hide skin disorders or severe discolourations. You can minimize the appearance of freckles, and in some cases, blend them away completely, but for dark, high- contrast pigment marks, most foundations will only go so far  applying copious   amount will not work and it will just look like you have lots of foundation on.
With acne blemishes,  and  severe out breaks of spots , attempting to hide  them using foundation is definitely unrealistic, and often makes the condition worse.
Blusher
Realistic -  using  blusher contouring make-up in  order to emphasize the cheekbones or to minimize the appearance of unflattering areas of the face.
Not Realistic - to attempt to use blusher or contouring make-up to completely  change the shape of the face. You will not get a natural-looking effect if you try  to make a round face look narrow by shading the sides excessively. Contouring the facing takes practice and should be done gradually so you can learn how to use make up to sculpt the face so it looks natural.
Eye make up
Realistic - it is realistic to use eye make-up to enhance eye colour,  to make them appear brighter  and more open.
Not Realistic - It is not realistic to expect a natural-looking result when you use excessive eye make-up, including  eye liner,  eye shadow and mascara in dark shades, particularly in daylight. Keep to the neutral tones during the day  for the natural look . Use heavy dark colours at night if you are going for the dramatic effect.
Obviously, the rules for make-up differ from day to night. Heavier make-up is  more  acceptable in the evening when the ambient light tends to be darker and the effects of cosmetics is less visible, but even at night be careful not to make it too heavy, as all you get is an over made face which is not attractive.
As long as you have Realistic Expectations with Make up the results will be flattering and more natural-looking.

Foundation tips for mature skin

Helpful Foundation tips for mature skin

Here are some handy Foundation tips for mature skinFoundation tips for mature skin

Choosing the right foundation is often hard and can become even more difficult as our skin mature's so we have put some helpful Foundation tips for mature skin together.
Aging skin often loses its ability to retain moisture, this causes the skin to appear dull and can also cause dryness and scaly patches. The change in weather from season to season doesn't help this.

It is important to find a foundation that has hydrating properties to help restore what age is taking away, oil based foundations are great for protection when the weather changes but are not enough to keep skin hydrated all of the time. If you have a difficult time finding something suitable, remember that you can always use a two-stage approach by finding a great moisturising cream and using it under your foundation.
Obviously it is best to keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water (8 glasses a day is recommended) and this will most definitely have a great effect on your skin and also wearing moisturiser daily even when you are not wearing make up will help to keep your skin hydrated.
Another thing lost by aging skin is the collagen and elastin which are what gives the skin its ability to “bounce back” when pulled and pushed. As these components of the skin break down, the skin’s texture becomes thinner, and the skin starts to sag in places where it previously appeared taut and plumped.
Look for foundations and skin care treatments that use ingredients which help to stimulate dermal activity,  these include products containing Vitamins C & E, Alpha-hydroxy acids, lycopene, green tea, and coenzyme Q10, which help to eliminate free radicals which attack the collagen and elastin, and help increase the skin’s collagen production.
Wrinkles are one part of aging that we would rather not have but as we age they are inevitable, so finding the right foundation to make us look younger is normally what we focus on, the key to this is choosing a foundation with a matte finish, not a glossy or oily one.   When the skin is shiny, all those little wrinkles and creases in the skin are accentuated by the glinting of lights reflecting off the oily surface.
If you should have a need for a foundation that doesn’t offer a matte finish in order to provide for some other need of your skin (extra moisture, or antioxidants for collagen and elastin replenishment) just use a finishing powder.
Mineral make up is great for mature skin as you can still wear your moisturiser and  antioxidant/enzymatic creams and then apply the mineral foundation over the top and this gives a lovely airbrushed finish.
If you have any more Foundation tips for mature skin please get in touch and let us know.

How to Use Your Eyebrow Pencil

How to use your eyebrow pencil

Its important to know How to Use Your Eyebrow Pencil

Now you have chosen your eyebrow pencil, here’s How to Use Your Eyebrow Pencil

Yesterday we told you how to choose your eyebrow pencil and today we are going to tell you How to Use Your Eyebrow Pencil.
Now that you’ve chosen your brow pencil, the next step is to learn to use it properly. Since the goal is to  enhance the brows. There are two main functions that brow enhancement is meant to perform: either you want to fill-in sparse brows, or you want to emphasize the arch of your natural brow.
Women whose eyebrows are sparse or pale, filling in the brows is fairly simple, once you get the technique right. Don’t start colouring in your eyebrows, but rather imitate the appearance of the short hairs that make up the brows in the first place. This means that you want a sharpened point on your brow pencil, and you want to apply the pencil using short, feathery strokes.
You can overlap the strokes a little, avoid applying the pencil marks too heavily. Keep the strokes centered within the boundaries of the natural brows.  Its easier if you have already done some grooming of the brows to reshape and define them, so you’ll have a definite area in which to contain your pencil strokes.
Finish the look by using a eye-makeup brush or cotton bud to softly blend the pencil strokes, as most people would like their brows as natural as possible. Remember, the goal is to soften the look of the strokes, not to smear them out of recognition.
Use the same technique as above to enhance the arch of the brow, only this time, take the strokes and start with the bottom of the inner corner of the brow and curve the strokes gently upward to the highest point of the arch. The strokes should just touch outside the upper reach of the brow’s curve, then curve downward and end up beneath the outer tip of the brow line.
We hope our tips on How to Use Your Eyebrow Pencil have helped.

Choosing an eye brow pencil

Choosing an eye brow pencilChoosing an eye brow pencil

You may think this isn’t rocket science but many people do not know what they are looking for when Choosing an eye brow pencil

We are going to talk about Choosing an eye brow pencil

Eyebrow pencils are possibly the most commonly misused cosmetic tool in the make up bag so we are going to give you some handy tips on Choosing an eye brow pencil
Apart from the often tragically comical looks worn by women who were convinced in decades past that the “right thing to do” was to remove their natural brows and “draw in” new ones, we also have less-striking errors like choosing the wrong colour of brow pencil (or using the eyeliner pencil interchangeably for the brows). All this of course is NOT what you are meant to do to have eye brows that other people admire.
First of all there are a lot of women who think that because their own eye brows are either blonde or quite sparse that they need to draw them in darker and thicker and in shapes that were never part of their face. So we say to all of you  if you are now the proud owner of thick dark strange eye brows please stop you probably look funny, and read on.
Firstly we are going  tell you how to choose the correct eye brow pencil for you:
Choosing the right pencil
It would seem  like common sense to choose the right shade of eyebrow pencil, but women often get it wrong. Since the goal is to “enhance” the brows, choosing a shade that is the same or darker than your natural brows, can cause the brows to look too heavy. Therefore, we suggest that choose  a shade for your eyebrow pencil that is a little lighter than your natural brows.
The range of colours for eye brow make up is limited  these palettes are meant to correspond to the natural range of colours.Look for the selection of shades available and select the one that is closest to your natural shade, but slightly lighter. This means that you ONLY want to select anything approaching a black eyebrow pencil if YOUR NATURAL brows are truly black., which to be honest very few people actually are.
Obviously  there is an exception to the rule for those with very blonde hair, you will likely find yourself having to choose a brow pencil that is darker than your natural shade. In some cases, some blonde women have naturally dark eyebrows. But for those whose brows are pale blonde, just go with the shade nearest your natural colour whether or not it’s lighter.
When choosing the right shade of eyebrow pencil, you also should also look at  the way your brow pencil works. Since the proper use of a brow pencil involves having a good point on the pencil, you should bare  this in mind when you are looking at the different pencils.  Your brow pencil should have a sharpening apparatus, even in cases of the “twist up” type of brow pencil, you should have some means to refine the point of the pencil, so that you can create the fine feathery strokes to give a natural-looking result.
That concludes Choosing an eye brow pencil tomorrow we will look at  How to use your eye brow pencil

What is a skin allergy

Today we are going to answer the question What is a skin allergy

What is a skin allergy and what can cause them

What is a skin allergy ? Skin allergies can be caused by literally anything.  The skin can protect itself to some degree from damage or invasion.  Mass cell detect damage to the skin; if damage occurs the mass cells burst releasing the chemical histamine into the tissues, the histamine causes the blood capillaries to dilate, which causes the skin to redden.  The increased blood flow transports materials in the blood which tend to limit the damage and begin repair.
If the skin is sensitive and becomes inflamed by particular substance, this substance is called allergen.   Allergens may be animal, vegetable or chemical and may be inhaled, eaten or absorbed when in contact with the skin.
Allergic reaction appears as irritation, itching and discomfort and sometimes even a burning and stinging sensation with reddening and swelling, can look like nettle rash.  Everybody has a different tolerance to the various substances we encounter everyday.
Here are a few examples of allergens known to cause reactions in some people:
  • metal objects containing nickel
  • sticking plaster
  • rubber/latex
  • lipstick containing eosin dye
  • nail polish containing formaldehyde resin
  • hair and eyelash dyes
  • lanolin
  • detergents
  • foods- eg, nuts, milk, shellfish, strawberries
  • plants
  • pollen
  • fruit
If you find yourself having an allergic reaction to a substance on the skin then remove this with warm water and try taking an antihistamine, this will remove the allergens. If you are allergic to something you have eaten, inhaled or touched seek medical advise.
There are lots of things that cause allergies but hopefully this helps you to answer the question What is a skin allergy.

Update on the effects of MI

We have an Update on the effects of MI

Here is an Update on the effects of MI

We have an Update on the effects of MI as there have been further reports in the Mail online this week.
A few days ago we told you about a preservative called methylisothiazolinone (MI) which is used in cosmetics and has been reported to cause allergic reactions in some people. We have now seen an article on Mail online to warn parents that baby wipes are making some children come out in painful, red rashes and that the chemical preservative MI has been blamed for this.
The report states that the reaction has been mistaken for conditions such as eczema.
Researchers suggest parents only use baby wipes when they are travelling and that it is safer to use paper towels with water whilst at home.
The report also states that cosmetic giant Johnson & Johnson says it is so concerned, it is taking the chemical out of its best-selling Piz Buin sun cream and other products and Molton Brown is doing the same, also big brands such as Nivea, L’Oreal, Clarins and Sanctuary are under pressure to take action as doctors say adverse reactions to the chemical have reached ‘epidemic proportions.
Skin experts say manufacturers should urgently remove the chemical from products that are left on the skin. It can cause rashes, lumps, blisters, itchy eyes and facial swelling.
MI is a preservative designed to extend shelf life, and has no useful properties for users of the products and experts say the scale of the allergic reactions to the chemical, which has been used increasingly since 2005, is alarming.
A leading dermatologist has said we’ve never seen anything quite like it. Contact allergy to this permitted preservative is now of epidemic proportions. Immediate action needs to be taken by industry.
This is our brief Update on the effects of MI,please keep an eye on news reports on this situation and for more information check out the Mail online.

Ever wondered How to reduce the appearance of large pores

Today we are going to tell you How to reduce the appearance of large poresHow to reduce the appearance of large pores

Large pores and blemishes can pose a problem so here's some information on How to reduce the appearance of large pores.  These get in the way of a beautiful and healthy look, not to mention that they age a woman. For softer and healthier-looking skin, it’s important to shrink pores and get rid of blemishes. There are several different methods a woman can use to shrink her pores and make her skin radiant.
Large pores cannot be reduced completely. Nevertheless, you can follow certain suggestions to minimize their appearance and get a flawless, smooth look.
These are some of the things you can do to help-
Steaming- before steaming make sure you clean and pat dry your face.  Add herbal tea such as green tea, peppermint tea, rosemary tea, chamomile tea, or a few drops of an essential oil like tea tree oil to boiling water.   Place the water in bowl, put a towel over your head and take in the steam as you lean over the bowl for about 5-10mins, finish by splashing your face with cool water.
Ice cubes or iced cold water- simply run an ice cube all over your face a few times in a day or rinse your face with cold water as this  will reduce sebum production and therefore shrink large pores.
Cucumber- blend a cucumber and add a cup of rose water and a tablespoon of benzoin to it. Refrigerate for about half an hour and then apply it on your face with a cotton ball. Wash it off after 20 minutes.
Egg white- whisk an egg white and massage your face with the foamy mixture. then wash it off with lukewarm water when it dries. For the best results do this once or twice weekly.
Facial treatment- having a facial should help to shrink your pores. If all else fails, you may go for cosmetic treatments like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, and so on.
To prevent large pores you should exfoliate regularly with an exfoliant that contains BHA  (beta hydroxy acid) as it exfoliates the skin surface as well as pores where clogs form.
We hope the above information has helped you in finding out How to reduce the appearance of large pores.
