What causes cracked lips?

Dry cracked lipids can be very painful but What causes cracked lips?

Today we are going to be looking at What causes cracked lips?

What causes cracked lips? Cracked Lips are usually a mild symptom that occurs as a result of environmental factors, personal habits such as licking your lips, or mild dehydration and the common cold.  All cause cracked lips.
Cracked lips is  rarely a sign of any  other health issues. But is quite often caused by the environment such as;
Cold weather
Dry weather
Indoor heating
Sun damage
Wind exposure
All these can lead to cracked dry lips but its not just the environment that can cause cracked lips. Other common causes of dry cracked lips are;
Allergic reaction to lip products such as lipstick or lip balm
Breathing through the mouth
Cold sores (herpes simplex virus infections)
Common cold (viral respiratory infection)
Mild dehydration
Repeated licking of the lips
Vitamin deficiency

How to treat  chapped lips!
Lips lack the oil and sweat glands that are two of the main moisture providers and retainers in ordinary skin.  So therefore useless you look after your lips with balms and spf 15 of  above you are most likely to suffer with cracked lips.  Now you may think that if you lick your lips you are rehydrating your lips but the fact is your not. Lips either have an extremely thin or entirely absent protective outer layer, which makes them particularly vulnerable to liquid loss. So saliva evaporates from lips very quickly and that can leave your lips feeling drier and worse off than they already were.
Don’t just buy any old  lip balm that  you happen to see at he checkout  at the grocery store because these lip balms may not have the best ingredients for your cracked lips,  particularly if  your lips are severely damaged. Apart from an SPF lip balm  you should look  at lip balms with beeswax, phenol and petroleum jelly . (If you see soft paraffin or petrolatum, those are basically synonymous with petroleum jelly.) If your lips are particularly painful, you may want to grab something that also has ingredients like camphor and menthol to help provide some relief.
But like everything prevention is better than cure, keep your self hydrated apply a good spf lip balm which should be applied even if  you are out in  the cold don’t just lick your lips remember it won’t help.
So now you know What causes cracked lips?
